Privacy and security in QuickBooks

At Intuit, we build privacy and security into everything we do. We know your information is valuable. You can’t afford to take any risks with it. Here are some tips to keep your account secure and how we protect your financial information:

General tips #

  • Don’t share your Intuit passwords with anyone.
  • Make sure that your password is complex. Include both numbers and capital letters.
  • Make sure that you have virus protection and a firewall on any computer you use to access Intuit products.
  • Don’t install programs from people or companies you don’t know.

How your bank connection works #

If you connect your bank account, QuickBooks automatically and securely downloads your transactions. Using the existing data from your bank saves time since you don’t need to manually record transactions. QuickBooks will continue to automatically download your transactions so your accounts stay up-to-date.

We ask for your online banking credentials (username and password) so we can establish a one-way connection with your bank. The connection and info from your bank are “read-only.” This means QuickBooks can “read” the data, but can’t process payments or get personal data from your transactions. Info only goes one way – from your bank to your QuickBooks account.

How we keep your information secure #

We rely on advanced, industry-recognized security and virus safeguards to keep your financial data private and protected. This includes password-protected sign-ins, firewall-protected servers, and the same encryption technology used by the world’s top banks.

Where your data is physically located #

We store data on Intuit managed systems. These are in your home country to satisfy data residency laws. Data is stored in the cloud on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

This means your data is protected by multiple layers of network, storage, and physical access security. In addition, these systems are backed up for redundancy.
