How to Easily Disable Comments Notifications in WordPress

Built into WordPress is a feature that allows a blog owner to be notified via e-mail each and every time a new comment has been posted or when a comment needs to be approved. This option can come in really helpful at times and is enabled by default on all WordPress installations. However, how do you turn it off? Maybe you have another method in place to check your comments? Possibly you do not feel the need to get the instant notification. If you are tired of these reminders from WordPress, we are here to help.

Follow these steps to disable comment notifications from within WordPress.

Turn Off Comment Notifications #

The first thing you need to do is login to your WordPress dashboard. Next, select Settings > Discussion in the left side navigation menu. This will take you to the page within WordPress that you can tweak your comment notifications.

Scroll down the Discussion Settings page until you see, “E-mail me whenever”. You now have the option to check or un-check two boxes:

  • Anyone posts a comment
  • A comment is held in moderation

If you uncheck either or both of these, this will disable comment notifications.

If you manually check the comments or the comment queue, then there is no real reason to get notified via email every time there is a new comment to see or approve. You could also get too many comments a day to read. In that case, you probably do not want WordPress sending you hundreds of emails every single day.

No matter the reason, these steps will help disable comments in WordPress #

This definitely has to be one of the most frequently asked questions about WordPress. Thankfully though, after a little navigation under the hood of WordPress, you can disable comments. What other notifications from WordPress would you like to see modified?
